Post subject:  1430cc - what are the best extractors to use?
Obviously the crappy ol' crusty white and brown 3-1s have to go.. LOL :D

I just bought a set of 3-2-1s but now I'm unsure if the diameter is slightly too narrow. I looked these extractors up to find a description "ideal for very hot small bore engines, for standard to high performance 1275s, and for street 1380s". I should have bought the "large bore LCB for competition use or on very large bore street engines; such as 1400cc+".

Keeping in mind that I just forked out $5k for a performance engine rebuild (the cam alone was over $500), I should probably sell the ones I just bought and buy these other ones more suited for my engine size.

What do y'all think...? Is it worth the extra cash to get something that will perform better, but to an uncertain degree? I'm leaning towards the "get the more expensive ones"...

The Brownriggs sound like they are best suited for hardcore 1275s... I just sent them an email about diameters and stuff.

I sent them an email enquiry 2 months ago, still no response... :x
Obviously too busy making money to check their website... :?

ps. the Maniflow large bore LCB is OK for BIG motors too, if you find one.
I'm running the Maniflow medium bore one on the 1360, it'll do me. Power band is 2700-7500+

Long centre branch extractors LCB's are superior to 3 to 1 extractors..
get some ones designed for 1275 class engines

I have had 3-1s and 3-2-1s.
3-2-1s are WAY better.

They actually extract the fumes.

I know LCBs are better, but I just bought some. The thing is, I think they might be too small for OPTIMUM performance from the 1430cc. What I'm asking is: Do you guys reckon it's worth the extra cash to sell the ones I just bought, and get the LCBs more suited for my engine size?

I think I will. I didn't spend $5000 on an engine just for it to be hindered by $200 worth of steel.

You will have better torque on a roadie motor, with the ones you have. IMO... :wink:

ps that's why my Brownriggs are not on yet, if ever!

If you are going racing, sure.. the Brownrigg long primary LCBs are good, but then again, long 3-1 race pipes are better still, for high rpm!

I don't have any huge plans to race it, and probably never will. It is just going to be "fast road". So you reckon just stick with the ones I have (just bought)? The interior diameter difference between the two is like 1/8" of an inch, which sounds small, I just didn't know if that "little" difference would really be a big difference for what I will use it for.

My 1360 goes hard to 7500+ with a Maniflow med bore LCB, I reckon if you fit pipes too big, the low end and midrange torque will suffer for road use. Just for a HP or 2 right at the top end.

If you've got a Maniflow medium bore, LCB, I'd try it! They have bigger pipes than all the Oz ones (except Brownrigg) anyway.

Can always stick it on eBay... :wink:

Liverpool exhausts at Moorebank (Sydney) make a really nice set of big bore mandrel bent extractors for $220, i had a set on my 1427 strocker motor & found them too make very good power.

Aiit then... I think I'll try the ones I just bought and see what happens from there. It will be a big improvement over the 3-1s anyhow...

Didn't Vizard write that a difference bwtween a good set of extractors and a very good set is in the single HPs, but an optimal exhaust is where the gains are made?
