Post subject:  TEMP SENDER

The temp guage was not working very well, not indicating correctly so I swapped the temp sender for a black centered one , I put some teflon tape on the thread and fitted it but the guage shows nothing, is the correct one for a cooper s / deluxe / k guage a red , black or some other colour centre for the sender ?

Lose the teflon, it's an insulator. So no circuit.
Just use a smear of gasket cement.
Red one is right but black works too.

I had a 'moment' when I read this - when I did my injection I had to use a GM temp sender. I made an adapter that's screwed in, and then the temp sender screws into the adapter... I used thread tape on both threads, and I thought "oh crap", then thought "but why does it work?", then I remembered it has an earth wire coming out of it

Also if you screw the Mini sender right in hard, it can make contact at the bottom of the hole. If the surface is clean (it seldom is).

Post subject:  The teflon Tape ?

If it is the Teflon tape causing it to insulate you should be able to connect a jump wire from the brass of the sender unit to the head see if it make any difference. If not the sender is at fault. But also try earthing the sender wire to the head see if the gauge will go right up the scale.

I earthed the sender wire and the needle moved up the scale so I changed the sender for a red one and that appears to work, I could only warm the car up a little in the garage too many cars in the way , thanks for your help.
