Post subject:  Flywheel housing cracks

Hello,

I removed my flywheel housing and found a couple of cracks near the hole for the primary gear:

I'm pretty sure the cracks don't go all the way through, so do you think it will be ok to keep using this one or should I find another (before I waste more time trying to get the damn bearing races out from the other side )?

Cheers,
Harry

As the `cracks' don't propagate from the seal bore, and also where they are, I reckon they are casting flaws, not cracks.
Vee them out and TIG weld, or even some super strength Araldite in the V would fix it. It's not a high load part of the casing.

As the Doc suggested. They look like casting Flaws. Clean the crack from any oil and fill with a bit of Davcon or liquid steel. Do not attempt welding as nit may distort the circle where the seal fits and you will have problems that it has not had for the past 40 years or so. If it worked OK and did not leak.....Leave it alone. If it ain't F@#^^@ dont fix it.
