Post subject:  Lower Alternator Bolt - thread size & length?

Does anyone know the correct type & Thread & Length of the bolt that hold the alternator to the bottom adjusting bracket? This is for a Rover 70amp alternator (if it makes a difference)

Managed to mangle mine getting it out earlier and had to pack everything away when it started to rain earlier. Will need to replace it before putting the new alternator in

Will try to remember to grab it from the car before i head out tomorrow and i can work it out, but thought i'd ask just to be sure. Ta

To be clear, this is the thread in the Alternator body itself? All mine have been M8. A length of 20mm will be OK with a spring washer.

This thread could be 5/16 UNC or M8 depends when the unit was made and also depends if it is After market. All After market units have metric threads.

Thanks, yes it's the lower mounting point which is threaded (which if i had realised before taking a BFH to i, might still be OK to re-use  )

It's a new one from minispares that i'm putting in so i guess metric.

One that came out of the old alternator was a different thread but same size as the bolts at the top, so not even sure if the old bolt would match the new unit. I guess i'll just buy both, can't hurt to have some different bolts around.
