Hi All
Just a wake up call be very careful where you take your car to show it or who you let take photo of your car if you have after market goodies bolted on, be it on the engine or on the suspension,(brakes etc) as we have some very jealous or nasty pieces of crap that go round taking photos of modified mini's at shows and then sending them to the RTA stating that these mod are not legal, the RTA is then asking the owner to bring the car in in 48 hours to have it checked be it on club rego or full rego, then removing the rego until you prove that these mods are legal.

Vic roads have inspectors that attend at car shows, they look around and if they see something that needs to be engineered and it hasn,t been, it is their job to make them comply. dont forget these cars are being driven on the road next to uor wives andkids, you would be the first to complain if a disaster was to happen and it was fou d to have been an illegal modification that failed that caused the accident, think about it. makes sense to me.

I find no problem with this, Working in an auto parts store and seeing the type of un-roadworthy cars that come through It makes me feel very unsafe being on the road.

99% of people shouldn't have anything to worry about. Minis being pre ADR. its only the very worst offenses that would get called in.

I see the problem being if it's someone that doesn't know the laws regarding ADRs and years of manufacture. Cars getting called in and inspected for things they legally do not have to comply to.
I had a paddy wagon pull me over one night full of cops and one tried to defect my 63 mini for not having side mirrors, I had to put him in his place and clearly tell him he did not know the law he was trying to in-force and it's people like this be it cops or the guy down the street that make these sort of complaints and waste other peoples time and money just so they can feel that they are "better" than others   .
Some people just need to mind their own business.

Are you suggesting VIC police are inspecting every car that has been in an accident and issuing tickets for illegal modifications?

considering my mate's seldom been pulled over due to his 1986 ADR compliant AE80 corolla (with only drivers mirror).... how green do they let these boys in blue out now? my brother in-law was a cop until about two years ago and the things he's seen other cops swear black and blue are unroadworthy, just shameful, granted not every cop is going to know everything, they really should get better learning of what is and what's not and when certain ADR items came into play, such as these mirrors...
you get pulled over for a lack of mirror on a car that's able to be put on HISTORICAL rego and yet the amount of pure rubbish you see go past while they're trying to tell you the world is flat......
sittin behind a patrol car yesterday at the lights, drivers side of the cop car is around 2 feet from the 09 mazda6 in the next lane, with a smashed off mirror and only half a working brake light... cop didn't even bat an eyelid.

Lets be a bit fair here. Police have a number of duties to perform and the bottom line is the protection and safety of the community. Also they are not in the police force for long before they have to attend some pretty gruesome events.

Most station police have enough other duties to manage without pulling over cars unless there is something about the car or the driver and the driver's driving manner that attracts their attention. At that point a minor thing like a mirror is probably their way of telling the driver that a change of attitude is needed.

Roadside RBT is a good way to assess a relatively large number of drivers and their cars in a short time. A clean well maintained car driven sensibly that complies with all the regulations (including registration, licence, sober drug free driver etc) usually doesn't attract police attention.

However, police officers have lives and personal interests as well. I have been pulled over in the mini simply because the policeman was interested in the car for the cars sake and wanted to have a chat about it from a historical perspective. I am also sure that while he was chatting and inspecting the car, his police eye would have noted any anomolies and he would have commented had their been any.
