Post subject:  Dead clubman
Hey guys I got a dead clubman, she is a 1048. Was running good on Saturday, fuel was low but not out. Went to get in Sunday and nothing, turns over fine but no spark. Won't fire at all. What options to check and causes. Thanks for your help

Do you mean literally no spark? Spark at the sparkplugs?

I have not checked plugs yet. I mean when you turn her over there no fire, just turning over if that makes sense. It's weird cuz was running fine day before

Check to see there's spark at the spark plugs, pull a lead off and have a buxom and attractive assistant turn the car over while you administer shocks to yourself holding the lead close to the block.

You will also need to check there's fuel in the fuel bowl (remove the three screws) caused by the low fuel tank level and perhaps a draining back fuel pump.

Took number 1 lead off turned car over. Can't see a spark inside lead and can't really tell from pushing lead on block maybe I Antoine it right. Took the top off su carb. The dome bit with three screws. Now I got no idea what I'm looking at lol

Not the dome, but the fuel bowl on the side. Should be petrol in there. If there's not, get a jerry and fill it up about 2/3rds of the way and put the cover on. It might be that the petrol in the tank is so low that the fuel pump has lost prime.

If there's no spark then you will have a problem with the distributor or coil.

You will need to work out which one it is before you can have a go at fixing it.

Petrol in the bowl is the short answer !!!!

Just give the ignition a quick hit on the starter and see if pumps petrol. Dont do it for long though as you dont want petrol plashing every where if it is pumping though. Just a quick hit.

Oh - just twigged - the domed thing - thats the bell of the carby - put that back on and make sure the thing inside it rises and falls smoothly once its back on.

What was being spoken about was the fuel bowl beside it - to see if it is full of petrol.

EDIT: EDIT: Yours looks different to mine. Disregard what I've said below.

EDIT: Just realised you snuck in a photo before I posted mine. Have a look at the other side of your carb for the fuel bowl.

Just for clarification:

The red square is your fuel bowl. The green square is the fuel line coming from your tank - yours may well have a filter attached to this hose. Have a quick check to see if it's full of fuel or not before you take the top off your fuel bowl. If it's empty, then chances are your fuel bowl is also empty.

If you wanted to, you could replace this filter if it looks old as well as it could be clogged up, restricting fuel to the carby. They're only a few bucks from your local auto store.

I had a feeling it was a HIF carby.

No the HIF wont have a fuel bowl off to the side. It has an internal fuel bowl.

How long has it been since this car was driven and used regularly ?????

Sorry, mate, didn't mean to steer you in the wrong direction, I'd take off the fuel hose and do as Mike suggested. See if your pump is working. If you've got fuel, then it must be electrical.
