Project '64 is an attempt by a group of Kiwis on the world land speed record for a production car under 1000cc. We are using a 1964 Mini Cooper S using the standard engine block and special head (more details to come). The car will be 48 years old when the attempt is made at Speed Week in 2012.

Glad some of you are interested cause I thought the whole project sounded absolutely f#¥€ing awesome. Plus I do have a secret desire to build myself a injected twinky some day (soon).....

Time will tell just how they'll go with their little 282hp turbo twinky 970? land speed missile..... Let's hope their get there!!

Are they allowed to use panels to streamline?...The mini is an awful shape
for high speeds.

Have no idea why the spanner is taped on....?

I remember reading about another mini that did the salt lake racing years ago and one thing I remember about that minis / bricks "streamline shape", was they discovered at high speed the engine bay actually developed a negative pressure! I can't remember if it was a roundie or clubby front end though. It was pretty much a standard shape, no streamlining.
Just another problem to solve when you go racing!
I dont visit facebook, for several reasons, so i haven't seen any photos of mini yet!

We all know bricks weren't meant to set land speed records....
These guys (kiwis) are trying to break 150mph to set a new record.
I think they deserve the support of motoring enthusiasts and mini enthusiasts regardless....
