JAM had all that HORRIBLE itchy fibre stuff everywhere inside the cabin (roof, floor, and firewall) which I removed before painting the shell......

I took my father in law for a spin in POPS recently and he said 'geez, you need ear plugs in here'..... :lol:

So with that in mind, tonight I replaced the soundproofing in JAM with something a little more modern :wink: Custom dash to be fitted over this one night this week :P

Over to you.....What have you used for soundproofing and has it worked??

Best I've seen is the stuff they use in boats and industry to soundproof engine boxes. It's alfoil+foam+leaded? plasticy stuff.. Gafmo has a roll.. :P Must pinch a bit more off him... :wink:

nothing yet, i will watch this post with interest.

I spy with my little eye, something begining with 'c'.
the carbon fibre on the metal instrument panel.....that looks
rather nice anton, any more pics (oops forgot we are on restricted photo basis)

Carpet under Carpet?? Sounds interesting What else works well, cause i am after some sound proofing ideas any one got photos of there great success.

yeh its leftover thick cream house carpet under the westminsters
hides the drain grooves
and sounds less tanky

Don't put sponge underlay under the carpet- when it gets wet (it's a Mini, right?) it'll sit there damp, rusting your floor away. :lol:

As Doc was saying but its Airconditioning Sound Proofing It is Heavy or you can go for the Lighter but more noise :wink:

Hey Anton... Sorry to rain on your parade but that stuff sucks! I have personal experience with it as it was lining some of Lillee's floor. After 5-10 years (or whatever... I aint counting) it turns into a crumbly pile of dust! I dunno why it just does... :( the stuff desintegrates like stale sponge cake!

It might not be the same stuff exactly but it sure looks like it!

I have heaps of this 10mm sound deadenning waterproof lightweight stuff from Clarke Rubber. One side is waterproof rubber foam and the otherside has a few other layers and is finished with plastic foil stuff. It's pretty good, heat proof too (to a certain degree) Real easy to cut and it works! I use it in my dash just as you have...

I got miles of it if you want some but it only costs around $20 a metre (which is plenty for a mini!)

I just don't want you to open up JAM in 2015 and think "OMG" as I have with Lillee :(

The whole dash is carbon fibre, with WHITE DIAL VDO gauges. It's freakin HOT!! Have to wait for show day before anyone sees that one :wink:

(Sorry Mr Bob - I ended up using those VDO gauges for my own Mini)

I got some from a place in Brisvagas called the "Reverse Garbage Shop"

Got enough to do the whole firewall for $8 - It's about an inch thick foil on one surface and about 1/16" of lead in the middle I priced it once at around $160 new 8)

Yea, a mate used stuff like this in his CR-V for his soundsystem, added like alot of kg's to each door! they shut like a Beemer's now..much quieter too....not a fan of the weight in the mini though :shock:

My car just has layer after layer of carpet and sponge underlay stuff in there.
The car is uncomfortably noisy for me, so Im going to try a sheet of that air con silver sponge lead stuff on the firewall, and some of the thinner version on the floor, rear seat and anywhere else I can. All I need to do is find out where to buy it. I see it at work all the time, but there is never enough spare for me.
