as usual a great weekend - lots of really really interesting cars, and the usual crop of speedy minis battling with falcons, chargers, cortinas, and this year, a pair of triumphs and a volvo! great stuff to watch, and they're all enhusiasts and love to tell you about their cars :D

Hey Simon...I just happened to be talking to Vince the Volvo driver tonight...didn't ask him how he went but he said they had a ball...think he said that was the first time they had been to Winton.

So is the June meet even bigger??

Mick - what's the June event? Historic Winton is run by the Austin Seven club, and it's amazing - they have a lot of international classic race cars come over. They come over for the Historic GP the weekend before the Australian GP, and another event, then after Winton, then they go to the northern hemisphere to do the historic races up there. All the obscenely rich collectors from USA etc. send their cars around the world getting raced

Makka, sorry, no idea

Yes it is....I am into calender overload mate!! I seriously thought about going to Winto but with three days of V8 Supercars at EC I though that was enough Brownie Points for a while....

My next is the All British then...

National Historics Race Meeting
Start Date: 24 Jun 2005
End Date: 26 Jun 2005
Event Type: National Historics (R4A)
Venue: Eastern Creek
Organising State Council: NSW
Organiser: Historic Sports & Racing Car Association Of NSW Inc

make the effort for this one if you can....usually a great meeting

The biggest Historic meet in Australia is PI and that usually precedes the F1GP......I want to do that in 2006...

no, wasn't super quick, was up the front in the handicap race, and at the back in the out & out race. Diced with the young prez of the Vic mini club the whole time so would have had a lovely time I'm sure. Looked and sounded really neat

Makka, the Mini I think you are asking about is Andrew Bergan number 7. He is from Sydney and very quick. Most of you would know him from GB MIni and Moke World.

Andrew had a very good run but couldn't catch the old master Henry Draper. I can't remember the last time Henry was beaten at Winton Historics.

Both of the HIillman Imps were built by Mick Stupka from Victoria. These cars should not be underestimated at all! They are only 998cc but they rev to 11000rpm! Mick sold the blue (nearly black) car to Jerry Lenstra a few years ago. Anyone standing at turn one at the start of the last race would have seen Mick pass the PORSCHE 911 of Rory O'neill , pretty much made my weekend!

There were 15 Minis competing at Historic Winton so I stongly recommend attending next year. It is always held the last weekend in May.

My personal results were not so good this year. After three laps of practice I managed to brake my diff in two. It's moments like that I wish I race a Cortina! (easy diff removal).

HRS
Austin Cooper S #38

PS: Mick hope to see you there in 2006

simon: when were you there? I was timing all weekend with GP timers, ive officialed at winton doing various things for the last few years, im good friends with A7 people in race control for HW. I was parked in the classic carpark, KKE079.. anyway!

Makka you're probably thinking of Greig Malaure who drives a white/black roof Austin Cooper S who is from NSW. He has been probably the quickest Mini driver in national competition, and was at HW last year but for some reason we didnt see him this year.

The Imps are fantastic to see, although unfortunately dont always show their potential. Interestingly this year also were some Alfa Romeos, a 1750 Berlina and a 2000GT Veloce belonging to Keith Wong from SA, the Berlina unfortunately suffering an engine failure on saturday. First time the volvo has been there too.

But, like people have already said, its not the biggest event but its one of the best, last year we even had an ERA grandprix car, and international collectors like Dean Butler always bring good things over. Peter Giddings from the US brought over a fantastic sounding Maserati GP this year.

just saw my car in ur photo collection.. guess you did see it!

yeah, sure did - it's a very pretty little car, nice collection of ads and memorabilia too, including the original owners paperwork!

has the K been restored?

I had my S on it's maiden voyage with the Riverina Sports Car Association display, same area as yours but closer to the entrance

In case you were wondering what it is, its a Borgward Isabella Coupe from 1959.

It was my support vehicle for my Cooper S race car. :)
