Guys and Gals, was down at the painters this arvo and the bonnet and valance panel have been painted and buffed, now the issue that has presented itself is this....... the bonnet was rubbed back and had the problem area at the top left hand side (whilst looking from the front of the car) painted and the whole bonnet was clear coated.

After curing and buffing, the bonnet and valance have these small pinhead "dimples" across the right hand side of the bonnet and the whole way across the valance..... , some of the dimples being quite large.

Now i'm assuming that the Polish/Wax that i use (Bowdens Own) has penetrated the paint and is causing the paint to spread instead of flowing on nicely, so would the answer be to rub back heavier (considering that there is a massive amount of coats applied) and re-apply, or go back to bare metal????

Time is running out before Muster............... anyone have any answers to unravel the mystery?

sounds like too much moisture in the air when it was painted.

fill us in with what paint was used, what primer, what was under it, and what conditions it was painted (like booth or open air)

Also what colour was it painted? still white? and a pic would be good

Ok Brad..... De Beers 2Pack...... De Beers Primer..... painted under house in a sealed (vented) room....... calm dry conditions.....

ok so if u used 2 pak under coat over old paint no problem, as long as when you rubbed it back you did not go through the primer to the old paint. If the panel was covered in 2pak primer and completely flat (no dimples in it) the the paint should sit flat. If the primer was not flat then that could have been a prob.

Unless you cleaned the gun with normal thinners and when putting in the colour had some left over thinners in it and made its way onto the primer with the paint.

Also another thing is the paint went on to dry, not enough coverage and this can look like dimples in extreme cases, did u mix in 80% 2pak reducer with it?

Okay, just got back from the painters again from a rub down session.......... DISASTER AVERTED.

Turns out that it was indeed wax affecting the ability of the 2 pack to "flow" on with out dispersing. The Valance panel is all good, and the Bonnet is probably being painted as we speak
