Post subject:  Fuel Blockage? Jet?

I've nearly got him started.

I haven't lost my genuine "Cush Mechanic" (tm) skills.

This setup should run, shouldn't it?

At least until the float bowl empties.

But when I use my patented "Dear Engine, I would be ever so grateful if you would commence operating.... ya bastard!"

The car will start and idle quite nicely, for a few moments and then conk out. If i try some throttle, I occasionally get a little back fire (indicating lean-ness?)

Fuel is getting INTO the float ok, so does this mean there may be a blockage around the jet area? And what should I try next. I have a hammer on standby.

Also, the car has been idle for a while (like years).

Thanks.

Sooo close.. (and it sounds good too :D )

Does the main jet pipe have a steel spring over it (= genuine jet) or is it a bit of black hose (= a fuel miser rubbish jet)?
The fuel miser ones don't like ethanol, and are not even rated for unleaded, according to Morris 1100 (he queried the manufacturers). They swell & close up.
I had one block up on the 1412 stroker, so I binned it and got a genuine jet.

That was the plan.

I'm hoping for a carb removal free solution.. :)

Is it supposed to move?

Yep, up and down, and the tube should be flexible. If it's all gone hard, bin it.

tube flexes , but the jet don't move..
I'm seeing if i can slacken/tighten the nut to see if it dislodges something./

If you take the Bell & piston out, you can then use something like the outside part of a ball-point pen (you know, take the guts out & just the outer plastic tube part)

place it over the hole in the center of the jet inside the carb & you can blow through it & make pretty bubbles in the float bowl 8)

Now it should be really easy to blow through there & it should make big gurgling bubbles so watch you don`t get any fuel in your eyes 8)

but if you feel any restriction (bar a smidge being that only of the weight of the fuel) then maybe there`s a blockage & "normally" it will be at the "o-ring" inside the bottom of the float bowl, where the jet-hose meets & joins onto the float bowl

whew!!! that`s enough info for now, hope you could understand all what i said 8) 8) 8)

Edit-->

Oh & you can clean inside the bell & the outer of the piston,,, probably filthy as anyways & more-than-likely is your main problem anyways,,, sticky piston will/can also "maybe" cause what you`re saying

Cheers ,Matt (and Kev)...

I've managed to get some movement back into the jet, but it seems a bit gunky...

And the car started a couple of times for a few seconds without the aid of the fuel sprayed down the throat... but the donor battery (wife's car) was sounding a little tired of cranking.

The mixture ie bound to be way out now too.

I'll give the pen idea ago later.. after I've charged another battery up.

Or ill just get another frigging jet. :)

I gave this a shot (once i figured out I wouldn't lose my dashpot oil :P ). Except I used something shaped a bit like a fuel hose. ;)

Filthy bugger.

And I got bubbles...

BUt the battery isn't charged enough to test it.. *sigh*

Patience.. patience..

I see your problem - there is a screwdriver blocking the fuel line...

Hooroo

There was a moment where I was looking everywhere for that screwdriver.

It took me about 5 minutes to realise..

Right, so I managed to get the battery to spin enough,

A couple of successful blows down through the jet and one horrible suck tells me that the fuel has a path from the float to the carb.

And..

nope.

At the end, you hear and see me give two very tiny pokes (with finger) of the accelerator.

But I had another two goes, one with a tug of the choke and one doing nothing and it still conked out.

well then,,, it`s probably not a fuel related problem then 8)

check the dizzy out now maybe yeah? :-)

It RUNS!

I gave the jet hole a thorough blowing with a syringe and rinsed out the float bowl a few times and away he went....
