Sounds a bit like a Morris 1100s / 1300 unit from the 60s.

Post subject:  engine year date

If the engine has still got the distributor fitted

the month and year will be stamped into the body of the
LUCAS 29D distributor
part number AYG2153 12 68 ( dec 1968 )

This distributor was from a 1968 Morris 1100S, Engine number
12YE/A/H1385 (1275cc automatic engine)

Or just compare the above engine number to your engine number for a approx year/month date.

As said, it's from a Morris 1100S/1300 automatic.
It needs oilway mods to work on a manual box, see my sticky at top of the Mini mods forum.
I am running a manual converted one in my 1360 wasaMatic.

[edit] These 1275 + autoboxes don't go too bad dropped into a Mini, but the gearing is pretty low. Final drive ratio (overall including the drop gears) is 3.76:1.
You do need a MiniMatic subframe though, as the box is wider and sticks further forward too.

It is from a Morris 1300 automatic.
It is not from a Morris 1100S automatic.

So it would be between June 69 to April 72.

Jan 69 to May 69. Probably closer to Jan than May.

They only built the Morris 1100S automatic for five months and about 700 cars. The early cars had a fully imported powerplant with the 12H169/H and the later ones had the Australian produced one with the 12YA/A/H prefix.

So, were these 1275cc `australian produced' blocks & heads cast here, if so by whom? Or did they bring the blocks & bits in and assemble here?

I understand that they imported UK castings and machined them locally.

I have just scored an old buggy that has a rear engined 1275 auto in it .

Engine no : 12YE / A / H xxxx
Dizzy No: 29 D
629 11 971 A
AYG 2153 3 69

I'm assuming from above comments that the motor comes from a march 69
Morris 1100 / 1300 .

It hasn't been run for some time , going to try to fire it up , not sure what í'll do with it ,
rough idea of what they'd be worth ? I'll see how i go with some photo's ( if i can figure it out the posting side of it ) .

That buggy looks fun but I'd toss the autobox and fit a 4 synchro manual instead.
And also mod the motor for more mumbo.
Autobox sucks too much POWA!

John I used to build Formula Vees, so a gearshift would NOT be a problem.

My brother actually scored the buggy , he's known about it for a couple of years .
He told me that it had a 1275 in it , so i asked him what he was going to do with it ,and
he said sell it , so i told him that i'd buy the motor out of it .

Well , we went out the other day to pick it up and thats when i noticed that it was an auto , unfortunately it has been sitting in the weather for 12 months so a couple of things need some attention .
Basically i'm going to try and fire it up , see what it does , whether it drives or not and then decide which bits i want to keep , take the engine out , get rid of the tranny
and palm the buggy off .

What engine / gearbox oil do these things take ?
