Hey guys,
Im just wondering what the record is for the most amount of ponnies produced by a 998 with a 5 port head.
My mate has a 998 with a 5 port head and its had thousands spent on it including a dual stage down draft weber, bored 110 thou and massive head work.
He is now planing on putting a turbo on it and expects 150hp.
So just wondering if he could really get that sort of power from a 998.

Cheers, Rhys.

With enough money I guess anything is possible.

Check these guys out: they are trying to break the under 1000cc land speed record with a mini and have managed to ring 240hp out of their 998. Albeit with an extra cam and a turbo.

150hp can be had from a turbo 998.

Wil_H on turbo minis has a 13second 998.
"Circa 155 BHP at 6900 rpm, 125 ftlb @ 5900 rpm"

It's important to remember what you want the power for though. The guys at Project 64 are doing an amazing job, but the engine will probably die after a thousand ks.

I really like seeing people getting huge power out of the a series, but if you're going for practicality, you'd be better off going for an engine transplant. You'll get the power, along with the reliability and fuel economy.

But as I said, modding the a series is fun.

Just remember, a low compression 998 turbo when it's `off boost' is pretty gutless. Not real great in traffic. Hence why when building a turbo (for road use) many people use a 1098, not a 998. So pushbikes don't leave ya at the lights before you're spooled up.

The other thing is by extracting 150HP (at the wheels?) from a 998 you're building a grenade.. it's just a matter of time before it goes BANG! and showers the cyclists in oil and conrods...

if it's bored out it's not a 998
Personally If I was building a "998" I'd get a good head and make it flow really well, decent to excessive cam and forced induction.
If you bore it out your building an 1100.

THEN you bore it out. :P
Don't go silly with the overbores if turboing it, +.060" or +.080" is enough. Whether it's got a 1098 crank, or not.

As for cams- don't go too big, or the valve overlap will send more of the boost down the zorst while both valves are open.
I'd get one of GR's T cams, either the 83T or the 13T.

A 998 bored overbored to +.120" is 1095.5cc.
I'd not be turboing it with cylinder walls this thin though.
