I'm thinking of changing Barney's interior to all black and wanted to get some advice on vinyl paint.

I'd be replacing the front seats with Cobra Classics, but probably looking to spray the back seat and door cards etc. Am I looking for trouble? Does anyone have any shots of stuff they've painted and how its lasts? I've looked a few posts and there are brand recommendations but I cant see any pics.

Also, what are people's thoughts on Newton Commercial's deluxe moulded carpet offering? Anyone got some good pics?

I tried some VHT vinyl dye (not paint) on some vinyl I am trying to colour match and it seems really good - soaked in and not just a top coat.

Worth trying a can on a small bit of vinyl.

You may be able to swap seats and cards with someone who has black ones (most common) as yours are green? They are not so common.....

The guys who do POR15 have a product called leatherique and i believe they do colour matching as well. Problem is its pretty expensive, $180 for a litre. If someone knows a cheaper custom alternative i'd love to hear it, as it stands right now my mini will have around 4 different shades of cream and id like to consolidate them to one.

I'm very impressed by the quality of the Vinyl paint I used on our doorcards etc. I can't remember the brand but have a few cans to finish the interior of the estate. The only downside is I bought gloss paint and it's quite shiny. Satin would be better if available. Seems very hardwearing though.

My dad was thinking about painting black seats burgundy to match the interior in his Major. I thought the paint would crack and peel. Responses give me a bit of confidence to go ahead!

2 things, its a dye not a paint so it doesn't crack or peel. It changes the colour.
Secondly you wont have much luck changing black into any colour other than black... since its a dye.

I used VHT on door trims and it worked great and was very hard-wearing. After several years of daily use there was no sign of the colour below coming through.

I've never used it on seats, but I would not hesitate to try it. If it does happen to fade after a few years you could always reapply it very cheaply.

Evan, I reckon you would be going to get trim and carpets that fits or looks better than what it has now.
We bought the car because Wendy loved the green trim, and its quality.

Redo Barney in black trim?

Man, I've got black in mine now, but it is so passe... next carpet I get will be red to offset all the dull boring black! :x

What colour is your interior now Evan? Maybe you should see if you can buy a black interior from someone, that way in the future if you want to change back you can. Would be a shame for all the interiors around to be dyed black.

On the Newton commercial moulded carpet: here is mine

I think it looks really good, bit of trimming required to get it in right but well worth it : )

VHT is meant to be really good vynl spray!
I guy I no did it to his recently, I am wanting to do the same thing

I have green interior but ive always wanted black as it goes with the rest of the colours & decal I have on the car

was always apprehensive until I found a good quality Die!

someone may even want to swap me! as my green ones are in perfect condition! look like out of the factory! the surface doesnt even feel like its ever been sat on!

Evan, here's a picture of the seats out of my 850.

I sold it a few months back and now it's up for sale again (for twice the price with the good bits missing..)

Anyhow.
I painted the seats grey with vinyl paint from supercheap and drove the car daily. It held up quite well.
You can imagine the traffic a seat bottom sees from daily driving for 6 months. Not sure how much the new owner drove it, but here's the result after 6 months:

Door cards would be fine, as would a rear seat.
I could only imagine it wearing where your hand might rub while winding the window up and down - but would take a lot of effort
