Evening

I have a 1973 Leyland. I know this car once was a sydney county council car. As far as I can gather (from what I have been told) it came from the factory with:

* magic wand gearstick
* county council coloured paint
* rubber floor coverings

I'm not to sure wheather I have correct information?

Is this car worth restoring to it's original COUNTY COUNCIL HERITAGE?

Any information would be appreciated. :lol:

Thanks
Michael

Yes - you have the correct info. Its either a jaundice yellow or phosphorus reduced pasture green colour. Both were supplied from the factory to the county council and prospect county coucil.

Why not restore it to county council specs. There were hundreds made and they were part of Australian mini history. Quite unque actually. You wont have international buyer queueing to buy one but you will have something that was common once.

My wife actually had one for a few years. They also had the low ratio diff for that screaming waving goodbye to Torana GTR's sensation off the traffic lights on Parramatta Road.

Mate, if you are certain it is a Council Mini, then it is quite unique and has some historic significance.

Personally, I would restore it to 100% original condition. That means getting as much info from as many sources as possible.

Some guys on here could help, and if you are not in the Mini Car Club of NSW, then join and ask within the club for info.

Also, try asking 'Watto' (through this forum) as he has an amazing stack of historical info.

Definitely restore it to what it was , there are thousands of modified clubmans and round nose mini's about , you don't want your's to be another generic car , put it back to original with a few internal mods to the engine so it looks stock from the outside yet still has a bit better performance for regular use . More fun having something a little different and in the long term even if it doesn't gain a lot of money because it's an ex council fleet car , it'll still be more valuable because it hasn't been chopped and changed like so many others ....

You Message if you choice to except it!

Be original and have the only Council Clubby on the street. You must research and get it as close as you can. Who else has one :shock: No One. Engine Mob's are allowed, if you wish

This Message self destruct if you do not except
:lol:

Hey Michael.

My opinion, keep it original. You can always do a modified mini later.

I see that your from wollongong, have you heard about Minis In The Gong, Its our local club, here is the website http://home.exetel.com.au/minisinthegong/
Hope to meet you some time.

Ryan
