Hi all I'm in the process of putting my carpet in and would like to know how the gear shift housing (silver base) is seated in regards to the carpet. Does it sit on top of the carpet, under the carpet or some other combination. I'm also needing to know how the gear change cable feeds from the housing, whether it too may sit under or over the carpet. Any photos would be great. One last question, what type of fuses to people use for the small fuse box. I have 2 blown Lucas 35A fuses (look like originals) but they are 28mm in length. Can these be replaced by the standard 35A 32mm fuses? The Lucas fuses seem to be narrower than the ones that you get at Autobarn and other auto shops. Thanks Andrew |

Thanks Andrew Firstly they never got carpet here, the Matics all got rubber mats. My 2nd matic had the mats intact, the cable went through a slit cut in it then out through the `850' style rubber boot screwed to the floor. I can't remember whether the shifter box was bolted through the mat, (it was a while ago, non goer when bought and I never drove it...) but I think not. Happy to be corrected... ![]() |

Thanks for the pictures. Mine did have the red vinyl but was in terrible condition when i got the car. Its getting the 9 piece carpet set. Looking at the different photos, some bolted straight on top, some had the flooring slipped over the top so the silver housing isnt visible. I might look at doing the latter so the cable and the bottom housing are out of sight. Thanks for the ideas/photos Andrew |

I wish that that photo was of my car but it isn't. One of my matics has a burgundy floor, the other is a mustard colour.. the other should be blue. Like everyone else, the original front floor is no more. |
