I'm at the point where I'm starting to re-assemble my motor, that has an 1100S camshaft with the spider drive oil pump.
Which way does the triangular dog fit onto the camshaft. I can only assume that because it has the step on one face that it has a specific direction. I would rather get it right now rather before the motor is buttoned up.
A simple question asked now will no doubt prevent a lot of tears later.
Thanks in advance,
James.

I can't remember because I use my flat spider>slot drive adaptors on my engines now.
Anyhow-
Look on the 3 outer lobes of the spider, there are polished wear marks.
These should be on the RH side of the spider (at top) when viewed from the clutch end. (as cam turns anticlockwise viewed from that spot).

the 3 lugs go towards the cam & the inner (protuding bit) goes to the pump

there are 2 types of these spiders, one is as your is (offset) ... & the other is central, as in double sided, these double sided ones go in any way

The double sided ones were used on 1275 autos.

Thanks for the replies. Work can continue tomorrow night, it's way too cold to still be out there tonight.
