So i'm just looking at some clutch plates and it's got me wondering.

What are the differences between verto and pre verto clutch plates? Going off of the minispares site we have

http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... HT597.aspx Which says it is pre 1990 verto, but in the description it says performance type verto 180mm. This product is listed in the pre verto category and not the verto as there is a 190mm version listed for after 1990verto

So do verto come in 180mm and 190mm depending on the year? And having a spring center as opposed to pre verto having a solid center?

Getting more to the point, the clutch plate linked above is designed for both verto and pre verto as the solid center setup will work in both types?

Yes the later Vertos were 190mm.
These paddle plates (in your link) are really only good for racing, as they are either in or out- there's little feel in between.
(I used one in my road Fiat once and it was a PITA, the extra mass showed the shifts down. After 1000 miles I removed and binned it).

On a pre-Verto these plates are commonly used with either a grey or double grey dot diaphragm.
A blue dot (S) one will not provide enough clamp force.

I'm aware it's a race clutch as it's for my sports sedan. I was just curious as it described it as a verto plate so i thought maybe the only difference between early verto and pre verto was the spring centre, which being a race plate with a solid centre eliminates the difference between the 2 types.

If you understand what i mean or am i just being confusing?

All Vertos had a spring centre. Pre-Verto did not.
Springs are bad news in a race plate, that's why there are none in paddle plates.

Hence a race 180mm plate is both pre verto and verto! Or so i'm thinking
