Most threads I can find anywhere and the Haynes manual tell you to leave the car on the ground, Undo everything, and then lift the body over the engine and subby.
My engine is currently out, wheels off, and front subframe is on axle stands...
How do I go about getting the front subframe out In this situation? With the ball joints and drive shafts loose I didn't think I could really just pop the wheels back on and drop it off the stands...

I just disconnected brake hoses, tie rods, ball joints, all nuts and bolts holding subframe in then lifted the body up and over.

Location: Sydney - strangely, I am glad of the sight of hills!!
move the stands to the floorpan under a wide block of wood to spread the load. put a trolley jack under the subframe with another block of wood and lower it after removing all the bolts.

if the car is still a bit low, once the subframe is on the ground, get a couple of helpers and while two of you lift the front of the car, the third pulls the subframe out.

at no point should anyone need to be under the car as it is lifted. lifting the front may destabilise the rear stands, so don't allow anyone under it. if you are careful, you won't have a problem.

easy peasy

cheers
michael

Just lower the car so the subframe sits on a couple of bricks/wood blocks.

Undo the bolts (and brake lines) and lift the body free. You can do this with a couple of mates or a trolley jack and a flat piece of wood under the body just between the rear legs of the subframe (IMHO this allows more control).

Leave the rear wheels on so that you can just wheel the body back (use the trolley jack as the front wheel.

Cheers, Ian
