Post subject:  Fuel leak

Hi all,
My carby has recently been leaking a bit of fuel into the engine while stationary. I've been parking with the nose uphill to combat the problem, but if I park nose downhill, the engine is hard to start, as it will splutter and carry on due to the excess fuel. There has been petrol dripping from the carby too, but it's hard to tell where from.

The float bowl and valve still look good and are at the right level. What else stops the fuel from running into the carb? I'm trying to figure this out, because if there is nothing else, when the fuel in the float bowl drops the valve will open and let more fuel in Does anything actually stop the fuel from running in?

Is the carby lower than the fuel tanks ? It can only do this if it was lower and flows by gravity. Suer the needle and seat are doing their job?

you have a mechanical fuel pump, right?

I bet the needle and seat are crook, but the float level looks good because you look at it with the engine not running, therefore the fuel pump is not pumping and overflowing the float bowl

I think I'll replace the needle and seat, purely because that's all I can think of. If I park nose down, the tank is higher which I imagine is the problem, but surely they didn't do this from the factory.

If the float bowl is empty, is there anything to stop more fuel from coming in? Because the float bowl will empty with time, and then the valve will open right?

Electric fuel pump, btw. It's mounted pretty high, in the engine bay. Do you think mounting it lower will help? When set to accessories, the pump will crank over a few times and stop when the bowl is full.

Mine does not have the accessories option however your the fuel pump should not be active when the key is turned to this position. I would advise you to change your wiring to reflect this.
