Well I'm planing on putting the remote box under the A+ block, will it bolt straight on
and I would then have to use the A- drop gears correct

I want to know if I can fit my 1990 Rover rod change gear box internals into one of my spare remote change box. The two housings I have are numbered 22G846 (four speed syncro) and 22G68 (three spd syncro). Or should I simply rebuild one of these instead of swapping everything? The only issue is the rover box is the only one I know works the two remote boxes are unknown condition. Although whatever direction I go the box will be fully rebuilt. Also is their any way to tell the gear ratios of the different boxes with out opening them up? or after opening them? |

definitely not - especially because the 22G68 case is 3 synchro, but even a 4 synchro remote box won't work |

`A series' rodchange gears (except reverse) all will fit straight into a 4 synchro remote box (you use with a 4 synchro remote rev gear). A+ (Rover etc) boxes have a different layshaft with 3 steps on it, I believe these gears and layshaft can fit a 4 synchro remote box with a slight mod, but I've not done it. As Simon said the 3 synchro case is out. |

So my best/easiest bet would be to just rebuild the 4 syncro remote change box (fingers crossed the gears ain't to bad). What are the chances the gear ratios are majorly different? The Rover box is on 10" wheels and so will the remote box. I like the current ratios the Rover box has, 4th at 110kph is around 3800rpm if anything 1st and 2nd could be a bit longer but this is more likely down to the std Rover diff ratio correct? |

Dont be scared to open the g/boxes up & have a look, at best it will only need new bearings & layshaft put in it. Basically yes it is down to what the diff ratio & wheel size is as to what rpm the engine is doing at any given speed. |

I think 4 synchro remote gears are maybe slightly closer ratios than Rover ones? You can also stick an 18T 1st motion shaft and 22G1040 cluster gear in there and get Mk2S ratios. Closer still. As for the diff ratio, just bung the Rover one into the remote box. You will have to bore the mainshaft bearing retainer out a little to clear the bigger pinion, is all. |

I have fitted the A+ gears into a standard remote change box. Needed a slight mod (with a die grinder) to fit the layshaft. Worked well. I used the standard drop gears as the A+ idler has a different diameter shaft/bearing. |
