Gday all.

Sent the car away for some tlc ...main concern was clutch, brakes, and general tune plus to see if i had put it together all ok so it wouldnt fall apart if i took it around the block.
car came back all good...very happy but now ive lost brakes.

they come back if pumped ...but if you pump the pedel and hold pressure on it you can feel the pedel go down very slowly.

removed master cylinder as it was suggested it may be the culpret even though its a new item

master cylinder has now been returned and was all ok so now it seems ive got a leak somewhere.

no signs of fluid loss so any tips as to where to start and look for?

should i just undo all joins and make sure they are all sealed?
plus a good bleed session.

or could there be a part that im overlooking .

will add all parts have been replaced and are new or as new as you can get for a mini.

Sounds like air in the system , if you can't see any obvious leaks , ( have a good look around the wheel cylinders ) , try bleeding it again .

Do a search on here for other peoples tips on bleeding brakes .

Get a brake line clamp and individually clamp off one wheel at a time, at the flex brake hose. If you find that you can get a solid pedal with one clamped off then you know it's that wheel that's the problem. If you get no change then it's a problem with the whole system. I would start there if it was my mini.

if its got a vacumn booster fitted it may be leaking inside .
you may have strange smoke from the exhaust (burning brake fluid)

thanks for replys.... :D
I did up all the joiners through out the whole system.
bleed the system again but was still there..grrrrrr :x

no booster on this car....never felt i needed one as brakes are or should say were fantastic.

checked the bloody t piece that the brake light sender bolts into and it showed signs of weeping  so i nothched it up a bit more.
and straight away it felt better so ill bleed the system again and see how it goes.

need to get under her today as now nuts are loose on the exhaust system and gear selector too rattles gallore .lol

Just a Tipical day working on a mini....goal set to fix one problem and four others show themselfs :D

If things are rattling loose use a few drops of loctite 243 on the thread, will never rattle loose and still just as easy to undo if u ever need to

I had an issue with a rattling gear selector, it turned out I had forgotten to put in the spring that sits under the nylon cup at the end of the gear stick. It is much better now.

well after a full bleed and another check i found it may have been leaking fron the front caliper.
pulled it all apart and re did it up again.
bleed it again.

its bloody werid as after a good bleed it has good foot pressure but if you move the car forward or backword a bit the peddel will loose pressure and go to the floor.

Im now thinking I may have a sticking piston??

hence why its good sometimes and the not.

so today i plan to lift her up....and test the front as the back are all working ok.

fingers crossed i can find the problem.

pulled it all off again.
bleed the fronts and this time i undid all three nipples starting from the top one then worked my way down.

even got the wife to pump the peddel to get pressure.
brakes felt good untill i moved the car forward and backwords a couple of times then the peddel goes down more then normal.
not all the way to the floor but almost.

im lost now so moving on to the body again.

A couple of things

Back off all the adjusters before you bleed.

Start with the furtherest away wheel and bleed that one first, then the other rear wheel, then the offside front to the master cylinder and lastly bleed the near side (to the master cylinder) last.

When you have someone pump the pedal while bleeding, have them pump slowly. Brake fluid has a viscosity and needs time to passage and refill the master cylinder. Two or three slow pumps, hold down and bleed and then repeat as necessary until its air free. Pumping quickly just aerates brake fluid.

Lastly, when you have a good solid pedal - adjust up the brakes again.

Mike

Thanks for that ....diddnt know about the viscosity thing and pumping to fast may put air into the fluid..
when pumping i normaly pump quickly so will take your advice and do it slow this time.

ill follow the steps you suggested tomorow and let everyone know how i go...

at least this way im less tempted to take her out again lol.....no brakes puts a damper on things just a bit..

well i got the sh%ts the other day and pulled the calpiers off again...paint striped them and now i have pulled the whole caliper apart as i noticed that when the caliper was off the brakes and just sitting there and pumped only 3 pistons moved....

three were easy to pull out but one was a mother inlaw to get out

as i pulled them apart i now noticed that one was stuck and the sealing teats in between each side were rusted too......the seals look ok so hopefully i can reuse or should i just buy a rebuild kit?

Buy a rebuild kit.

All rubber brake componants should be replaced at set intervals (5 to 10 years depending on use, 1 year if used on the track)
If you don't know how old they are you should replace them.
