Hey guys,

It has been a long while since I have posted on this forum however as its a rainy Sunday afternoon i felt compelled to get some ideas of various people.

I have been given a very special mini.

It was the very first mini I was driven in when I was 18 and it was to the MiniShow at the showgrounds. I have promised that I will restore it (with no timeline set for obvious reasons).

It is red with a black vinyl roof (I hope to keep the same colour scheme but with a painted black roof but I am open to other ideas that I might like to look at).

It has jelly bean mags (id like to keep those)

The interior is pretty much cactus as it got damp and is destroyed.

It has drums allround which are siezed (should i start saving for discs),

Its got Twin SU's. not sure what the engine is yet but I think it is a 998 with some exuast system I have not looked at in detail. I remember the owner always saying it was slow but it didnt feel it when i was in it.

I guess I would like to turn it into a car that will be used on weekends and is fun to use. (I have a normal daily driver).

I managed to get the engine going and it sounds really good with no smoke. Not sure if the clutch or gearbox work as the master cylinder is siezed.

In terms of any other mods or things to do that would be ace.!

Just rebuild anyway you like, as long as another mini survives the scrap heap.

Any pics?
If the body is good, straight and rust free your laughing. If the red paint is good/fair it might be possible to brighten it up with a good polish, take a lazy day to do it and use decent products. With the roof removing the vinyl is quit easy, a heat gun and a scraper will get it off but then it will need a very clean, sand, prep and then painted black as planed and that colour combo will look ace.
With the interior strip everything out. Clean and protect the metal surfaces (if their is rust fix it properly).
Once the shell is in good condition then you really need to decide what style of car you want, race, track day special, Cooper S inspired, retro/period styled, luxury, modern, classic, original etc etc This theme will determine what the engine, brakes, interior, dash, seats, arches, bumpers, accessories and all the bolt on features will be.
Let us know what style/themes you are keen on then we can throw more ideas at you. And please show some pics.
Also the first 5 odd digits of the engine number will give us a decent idea what size it is and tell us some of the other identifying numbers on the body.
