| Post subject: | Lower control arm bushes |
Hey ausmini I started a complete resto on my mini 6 years ago the first thing i did was put new bushes in the subframe.the car has only been on the road a year and has flogged the front bush out in each lower control arm. 
What have i done wrong to cause this? I dont think i have overtightened. One bush seems to be longer than the other . Can anyone offer some advice. Cheers Dan |

Are/were they the correct type? There are two, one is tapered, one is not |

Well there in a clubman and appear to be tappered so if any one could confirm they are correct that would be appreciated. dan |

Clubman will have tapered lower control arm bushes with a metal insert. It is possible that the lower control arm bushes you fitted were just plain poor quality, they do vary sometimes. You could consider fitted nolathane bushes which last longer. |

Those are the correct style of bush for the later tapered arms. The nut should be done up tight when the shoulder of the pin at the threaded end touches the subframe. Have the bushes had oil/grease on them? The pair on the left in the picture, the top one looks a bit like its been attacked by oil and broken up. If thats not the case then probably just bad quality rubber as seems to be fairly common with some of the reproduced rubber. |

I fitted Nolathane ones once and was completely unimpressed. After 6 months they were distorted, oval and loose. Keep em for your race cars, IMO rubber is best for street use. |

i have another batch of my "Awesome" bushes coming soon those ones in your pic are obviously old crap,,, probly old stock goooone bad |
