I have two old gearboxes both with left hand side output shafts looking like this?

Image

Anybody come across this before, can't think what would cause it. Maybe somebody has had gas axe to the U bolts to remove but both where from different cars?

At a guess considering their both left hand side and would be spinning anti clockwise it could be from too much power for the casting or loose/over tight u bolt cracking out under load.
Just a wild guess.
Cheers Rob

Very common, caused by a worn out rubber U/J- the U-bolt on the other yoke (on the driveshaft) has come across and worn into it.
I have a selection like those here, also plenty of good ones if you need any.

If you don't have any that are better, just swap sides with them, so that driving forward would wear the other side (if it flogged out)
