Post subject:  Suspension clunk

Hi all,
The back left of the mini was sitting lower than the other corners, so I decided to have a look at it. Took it all out and everything looked fine, the cone was good, the trumpet was good, and the knuckle joint hadn't worn through, although it was a bit rusty since the rubber boot had come off.

Since I couldn't see anything wrong, I replaced the knuckle with a new one, and reassembled. After putting it back on the ground, the height looked good again, and even after a drive it looked good.

However, there is a clunk when going over bumps, which is present when turning either direction. It sounds like an empty bottle tapping the side of the car. Now I'm hoping it's the fuel tank that needs alignment or something (since it needed to be moved to get to the top of the damper). But I imagine it's the damper. It may have gotten a little wet when I was cleaning out the wheel arch - would this make any difference?

The suspension arm moves freely, the knuckle, trumpet and cone are all seated correctly. Any ideas?

Haha, pretty sure it's not sheldon.

I took everything out of the boot to make sure it wasn't that, but it could be the fuel tank isn't strapped in properly. The shock bushes seemed okay, but it's worth a look.
