thats a good how-to. :D

But how would you wire one up to a floor start setup? as there is only the one power cable straight from the battery thru the start switch. :?

You can't, without a little rewiring. The main battery cable has to go direct to the starter.
You could do this by putting the front cable on the same stud of the push switch as the battery (and the other wiring) is connected to.
Then, run a small wire from the other stud to the solenoid coil spade lug on the starter.
So, the 850 starter button will then work as normal. :wink:

The Bosch geared starter in my link above has far more torque than a Gemini one does (hint: it's originally off a 6 cylinder motor) so would be way better for your 1412.
Mods to fit a Mini have already been done, so it bolts straight in.

@Convertible Mini, yes it's a ripper, I love it. 8)

Exactly what I did for my starter that i got from Convertible Mini. Works perfectly and was dead easy to wire up.

For many years I have modified Mini engines of various compression ratios and advance curves. That is why I spent a lot of time working out what starters to Modify and fit to a Mini which will make it start easier. One of the biggest drawbacks I used to find with the original Lucas M35 starter if that they like to throw back out and spin freely as soon as the engine fires once. That is very annoying and also caused heaps of premature wear on the starter bushes and brushes. The latest modification of mine which started in 1982 was the Bosch starter. Those days I used the real big and Bulky ones. When the Planetary geared starters came out on the market I thought "you beauty a small starter"...I naw modify these Bosch planetary geared starters which are powerful enough to actually spin a 5.8lt V8. So you can imagine how they spin a Mini engine regardless the compression. These starters do not throw out till the engine fires up. The other good thing about these Bosch starters as opposed to Gemini starters is that parts are readily available for them at any Auto Sparky. Gemini parts are getting hard to find. Also My Bosch starters fit on Cooper S with Oil coolers fitted as the solenoid is underneath. You can't use a Gemini starter without having to re locate Oil cooler. I have them for a and A+ motors. These Bosch starters outrun some fancy brands of special Mini Starters on the market that one can not buy spares for.

I have two starters that I modify. One fits the old A series and the other fits A+. 2 Different starters technically but look nearly the same. I have both in stock. Being starters that are used on most of today's Australian built cars parts for them are easily available from any Auto electrician that still prefers to repair starters and alternators. Please also note that I also have these modified starters to suit Jaguars, MGBs and many other British cars. tonyviv@ozemail.com.au

A bit of a thread revival:

When wiring the Gemini starter for a floor start 850 does the starter motor need constant 12v and then switched power for the start solenoid circuit or could it be wired:

Existing switched 12v power cable from starter button to “battery positive”
Join “battery positive” to “start terminal” to provide the start signal?
