Post subject:  Windscreen wiper adjustment/service

Hi all,

My wipers do not wipe. Well they do with a little encouragement.

They start, get a quarter of the way up, then stop. With a push they keep going. I have changed to a new wiper motor and still have the same problem.

Is there any adjustments I can make to the wheel boxes or the rack that might help?

It's square body wiper motor, single speed, parks on the drivers side.

Cheers
Ryan

and maybe you guys might know as well what causes wipers to wipe too far? My wipers end up wiping from the correct position on the down stroke to way past the windscreen rubber at the top of the wipe. Any ideas?

Depending on what you have in there I'd suspect either the wheelboxes are wrong for the motor, or the motor has the wrong gear in it.
For square motors) the early (RH park) wheelbox gears have different no of teeth.
There are also 105° and 110° gears (marked so) used in the round motors for different makes & models of cars.

From memory I read somewhere that the LH park cars originally had a 110° wiper sweep gear, but at some point it was reduced to 105° to avoid the prob you mention.
John Smidt's memory might be better than mine re where this was documented.

Any advice.

Is it easy enough to remove the entire setup and service it, or can I tighten or adjust the wheel boxes?
