awesome! there's an Albury crew over there with their HK Monaro and an AU Falcon (still painted up as a taxi). I'm friends with one of their mechanics I'm sure he'll have a lot of pictures of the mini for me when he gets back |

Not official till they back it up in the same timing zone. Very impressive though! Anyone know what the 'oiling' issues were with the engine? Cheers ![]() |

No no, Howard, my AUII notataxi has no diff whine. It was optional.. ![]() I'd be more worried about the tailshaft at that speed. ![]() |

Im sure i remember seeing footage of a J car hit 200km's. And wouldnt have had a super charger or twin cam head. you've gotta put it in perspective - yes, GR's Nb car hits ~203kph at Eastern creek, at somewhere around 8300rpm - and it's flat out, can't go any faster, and if he tried to maintain that sort of revs and load for any amount of time (the main straight at eastern creek only lasts 20 seconds or so), the engine would fail very very quickly Now, think about your own car, if it's flat out at (say) 160kph, and you wanted to push it up to 180kph, what sort of modifications would you need to do? now push it up another 20kph, and then another 20kph. But what you've gotta remember is that every little bit faster you go, the air gets harder and harder to push through. Maybe that first 20kph takes another 15hp, then the next 20 takes another 30hp - and you've only just broken the 200kph mark... that extra 20 is probably another 50hp The aerodynamic forces on a mini are huge - and that car still has it's body seams and then make it survive repeat runs over a long distance at the utter utter limit of it's power what those guys are doing is absolutely astonishing |

Just got an e-mail from the boys. Al We've just got through tech inspection after backing up our record run - we did 142.103 and 151.087 so the record is 146.6mph. We are now lining up again to see if we can break our own record. The run was completed on mile 2 of the course and the times are the average speed over that mile. The tactic for these runs was to run for only two miles, accelerating quickly then to shut down after the 3 mile makers to conserve the engine. On both runs the car still had spare speed at mile three so we are now going back to see how it will go over mile 3. If we break our own record then the car will go into impound overnight and then attempt to repeat it on the same section of course in the morning. It's pretty nice to be lining up knowing we've got the record. Everyone is a lot calmer! Will get some photos to you later today. Listen out this morning for another Radio NZ National interview with Nelson Hartley on Morning Report and tonight's news on TVNZ. -- Mike Wilson - Project 64 |
