G'day
Anyone ever heard of Roil Gold??
It keeps fiction extreamly low, thus keeps the mini's enigine nice and cool
better than any oil on the market.
i only just found out about this stuff and was wondering if anyone has used it before in a mini before?
its only been around for 4 years and is mostly used in drag cars....

i could be wrong but i think the oil wouldnt be heavy enough for use with mini gearboxes. Thats one of the main reasons the oil is so heavy. to keep the box lubricated.

Cheers

Aaron

Seems like a pretty dodgy site, and they want to charge you for a 1 hour product testimonial..aka ad!

Just be careful. I read lots of material in UK about additives in oil that just are not compatible with mini engines simply because minis share the same transmission oil as the engine oil.

Teflon type additives which make oil slipperier than normal break down very easily with temperature. Other additives like detergents wear out things like the diff pin at an alarming rate. Keith Calver said that out of the 100's of competition diff pins that they sell only 3 ever were returned for warranty claims so far. 1 was a race car that had run a whole season of racing, the other 2 were road cars using oil with a high detergent additive content (ie. Modern Engine Oil)

Not trying to knock the product as I have no idea about it, but I'd just be careful. At the end of the day, a full modern drag car is a completely different beast to a 40 yr old cast iron Mini...

*end of rant*

Yes thats the one, very impressive....
Even with out any oil, just the Roil by its self, reduses friction and wear by an unbelievable amount.....
just dont know where to buy any from?!?....
dont think u can just buy it off the shelf

Yes, you can't just buy it off the shelf. Yes, I know how you can get it.

Like I said before, my brother used it in his mini and according to him it made it run cooler.

I have always wondered if friction modifying additives would affect the action of the synchromesh. Can someone try it and let me know. I 'm not trying it in m y gearbox first.

The doco on this stuff is quite amazing... My parents have used this on all their cars (shitty banged up ford station wagon, 1977 450slc merc and my mum's new peugeot 307cc...) all cars lasted longer before oil changes and especially on the merc, you could seriously tell the engine was running much better after the roil was added. From memory, there is also a fuel additive made under the same name which also works a treat. Not pimping this stuff or anything but it is a good product from what I have seen of it. Whether or not it would be suitable for a Mini considering the gearbox and all, I have no idea but this stuff is used for lubrication in power steering, transmissions and main engine. It is just diluted differently according to capacity and type of use. But if anyone would like some I can find out how much it costs and where my parents get it from..

There used to be seperate ones each for engine oil, gear oil, auto transmission oil, as well as a fuel additive for both petrol and diesel. But now with the roil gold, except for the fuel additives, its all in one. Plus less of it is used. Its just mixed at a different ratio to the purpose its being used for.

Like sss my parents have used it in all their cars for over 10 years as well as the lawnmower, deadly treadlies etc.

From my limited understanding of gearboxes, i dont see how it would affect the action of the syncromesh. Anyone care to explain? All i know is that there were no known ill effects from my brother using it in his mini.

Im just as sceptical with things as most people are but from my experience it seems to work pretty good.

Hmmmmm... dunno about this stuff, but...
I've been sceptical of oil additives ever since I rebuilt a 1275S for my present boss, years ago. The P/O ( a well known open wheeler builder & Mini nut back then) believed all the additive drivel- he ran it out of oil, and must have kept going until it stopped. Then he parked it and sold it a while later.
By the time I stripped it, we had to grind .030" off the crank journals to clean it up, the cam was buggered, & the whole gearset was knackered. The needle bearings had ground their way right thru the hardening inside the cluster gear and 1st motion shaft..
I still have these as a memento.

So, I'll stick to oil. And change it regularly...
