Does anyone know a locksmith in Sydney that will cut a key from the original key code number? |

I know one in Nelson Bay..... Most good locksmiths should be able to do that. If you get stuck let me know Cheers, Dicko. |

There is a locksmith who did this for me up in Mona Vale (Northern Beaches) about 3 weeks ago. 20 Bucks for 3 keys made from the code on the boot lock. |

If It is a FS Key I can cut them for You from The number I have a sample of every Mini Key in The FS Range |

I've done it a few times myself. On a roundy I would probably match the ignition and boot to the existing door lock to save pulling the door lock out. |

I have asked a similar question here at the local locksmiths. I had a key and wanted some locks changed to match the key. They said they couldnt do it because the wafers inside are too old and they cant get them. I thought they were a pretty useless locksmith when he told me that. So if i want a boot lock keyed the same as my ignition and door locks, is the only way to get half a dozen bootlocks for them to pull apart and hopefuly make a correct one? Or can a "good" locksmith do this without any trouble? |

A good lock smith should be able to do it for You, Some simplly put the key number you want in the barrell then file down the wafers that are sitting up, For the most part this is not a great way to do it, If You have a selection of locks then take the barrels out and read the key number stamped on the barrell you may match a full set up with what You have if not see if You can buy the missing locks keyed the way you want That is if You cannot find a locksmith to do the job You want |

I've done a few by using the method where you insert the key you want to work and filing down the wafers. It's easy to do yourself. John, interested to know why you say this is not a good idea. Is it because it makes the lock less secure?? (the old key would still work) |

(the old key would still work) If You only have to file down one wafer or maybe 2 it may be ok this will mean the original key and the new key will do the job, However sometimes more than two keys will operate the lock I have seen it when this method is used that a lot of keys will operate the lock as You may have found, sometimes you may file alot of one waffer and a little of possibly two more, This will then raise the chance of more keys fitting the same lock Having said this My Dad who never locked a car Said that locks kept honest people out and caused the crooks to damage You car to get in |
