Hi everyone

Does anyone know the maximum width 13" rim you can comfortably put on a round nose mini without having to cut the guards?

I like the 13 x 7 but I am concerned about having to cut the guard, I'd rather leave the guards alone if possible.

Any advice/suggestion would be appreciated.

Cheers

All depends on offset, I have 13 x 5.5s on my car, 13 x 6s have been done before as well, but both are a real squeeze.
13 x 7s are no hope.

13" rim and comfortable shouldn't be used in the same sentence...

Thats right, they'll nearly always rub to a certain extent, and the ride is quite harsh.

Thanks guys, I need 13" for the brake mod I'm doing, so no escape there, but I want the car to have some "stance" and therefore am looking for the widest rim without having to cut the guards.

In the mod, I can accomodate any offset on any wheel, so it doesn-t rub internally, the challenge is knowing how far I can push the outside of the rim before it rubs on the guards

So i guess my question should really be... Does anyone have an idea how far a 13" rim can stick out before it rubs when turning (eg 1", 1/2" etc)?.

How do tne 13x 5.5 look? Do u have any pictures?

Tnank u again

The wheels can stick out from the body about 1.5 inches from the lip (2 inches from the panel). That is a maximum, for 175 wide tyres.

Things that can effect guard rub:
Rim width
Tyre width
Offset of wheels
Offset of brakes
Front castor
Attachment method of arches
Ride height

What is the width of your brakes compared to standard mini disc brakes (stepped drums)?

You can get an idea for how wide you can go by using other wheels with washers behind the studs or turning wheels backwards. Obviously, this is a driveway activity only.

Thanks Harley

Sure i agree, all clear on what items impact the rubbing and along the way each of these issues will impact how far the rim sticks out beyond the guard this was (I guess) the measurement I was looking for.

So from your experience i can go to a max of 2" from the panel with 175 tyres before i will need to cut the guard? (as stated i want to avoid cutting the guard)

Thanks mate

Harkey, forgot to mention, you said you had 5.5" on yours, and i asssume you didn't have to cut the guards.

Do you have any photos you wouldn't mind posting showing how they look? If they stick out enough to give it a nice look I am happy to go 5.5"

Cheers

Post subject:  The rims

Thanks dodge, nice pics

So even with 13x6 you had to cut 20mm off the front guard (if I understand correctly for about 150 mm high)?

You photo doesn't show the front wheeles but how did you manage the symmetry of the arch? Is it obvious that the arch is now a little oblong (I guess$) or is it not noticeable?

That is my concern regarding having to cut the arch....

Cheers

Pics of my car here:

5.5 or 6" wheels will give the same result, as the tyre is the widest part of both.
My car has no cut gurads, but they do rub on full lock hard cornering.

I have seen one or two cars before that had 13 x 6 superlites on them that looked like the guards were stock, but can't verify it at all.

You might be able to push the envelope on the 2" from the guard, but ride height will have to go up and the car will look odd.

If you're bored, here's a short list of cars or owners to search on the forum for as I'm sure they had 13" wheels:

Peanut- silver 850
Realxbass- silver 1275 LS
The member that put a 4efe into a pale / saxon? green 850. Can't remember the owner but the car looked stock except for the wheels.

I have 10x 6's and have trimmed a bit so I can't see 13's being easy.. You could probably get away with some but sometimes to run a nice ride height etc it's got to be done.. Or just put up with it if it's only a slight rub as you aren't using full lock all day

Hey you saying no escape and implying you are committed. No way! turn back and dont go there. This is a place where 10" is better than 13" anyday. My 7-1/2" discs are all i ever could hope for so for mine the larger ones are a bit of overkill. But of course - that is a a driving choice.

And visual aesthetic - its a matter of opinion but for mine nothing beats fat 10" dia rims!
