Guys,

what is the average ground clearance of a MkI/MkII mini?

I am looking interstate at a mini but ground clearance may be an issue for transportation? :cry:

How long is a piece of string?

A Mini should be at least four inches clear of the ground by law. Sagging hydro and squashed cones means you may end up with three inches or less.

Perhaps the owner has a bit of 4x4 or 4x2 he can lay on the ground between the wheels and drive over it to see if it catches. :)

Damn, I could be in trouble then :( most places I have have spoken too for transport require ground clearance of 150mm or they wont move it!

Considering the trailer will have suspension, why don't you put wooden blocks between the bump stops, cable tie them there? Or rubber blocks if your not convinced the trailer won't rattle it to bits. Most new cars are transported to the dealer with plastic blocks to stop suspension travel.

I am kind of limited in my options as I am looking to buy interstate, so i have to rely on the seller and transport company....

Anyone used a transport company to move a mini? Would you recommend anyone?

I will give CEVA a call Monday, they didn't have anything on their webpage about min height so I may be good.

Fingers crossed i may be back to being a mini owner again soon, well as long as SWMBO gives a thumbs up.......

Try other companies as well. VIP transported a mini for me on a CEVA truck, but was at a better price at that time. No questions were asked about ground clearance.

I need to move a Mini from Townsville to Brisbane and was about to book with TOLL. They quoted $380. When I phoned to book it, they then started asking about ground clearances and told me it had to be over 15cm for them to accept it (No mention of that when I was getting a quote).
I just called CEVA (after reading this topic) and they quoted $275 and no mention of ground clearance. Guess who got my booking?

I used CEVA to bring a non-running Mini from Brisbane to Melbourne. It was picked up by a flat tray, moved interstate by a transporter and then delivered to me by flat tray. No problems about clearance or lack of engine power.

I booked for a car to be moved by Prixcar the other week, quoted, payed for and everything all go. THEN I get an email saying the car has to be 15cm off the ground.
Thats rediculous, no cars in my driveway are that high and one of them is a VW Tiguan!
I rang back and they said there are occasional exceptions, and that my car would be fine.
2/3 the price of CEVA too, so I'd try them if you can raise it.

It's probably a get-out clause so they can deny any claims if the car scrapes during loading or unloading.

I asked them what happens if the car scrapes, and the response was 'we're not liable for the damage to your car', and I said 'I don't care about my car!' :lol:
