Hi guys as the title says, just wondering where the best place is to buy spares for the mini both in price and quality? I don't mind paying a little extra if the quality is better but I'm after an electronic dizzy conversion or kit and a few other bits and pieces like wheel bearings and brake slave cylinders etc. Thanks in advance :)

Ive found www.minispares.com are really good price wise and great quality..
$850 for cooper S discs and fully adjustable suspension including post 8) is far better than the $1700 i was quoted from a local mini shop. And thats without postage.

Whenever someone asks this question it usually turns into a local vs import brawl.

I'm all for helping the local guys, I buy most of my small parts from Willsons Automotive here in Tasmania, because they sell at the standard prices, and while ordering from the UK is cheaper, after the postage and the time it takes it isn't worth it.

Quality is also a problem both locally and imported (a lot of this is due to the fact that most of the local stores sell imported parts anyway). Reconditioned old parts seem to fare better in most circumstances. Best to do a quick search on here for particular parts, some Australian businesses make high quality replacements. I hear plenty of good things about Karcraft, Matt Read, Mini King and Graham Russell.

I used www.minisport.com for a big order from the UK, and while I saved a lot of money, the customer service was awful.

Mini spares uk for big orders when you can wait... I find the main difference between Mini spares and mini sport is that mini spares have a lot more stock. My last order was for 60 items and they had every single thing in stock and was on my doorstep within 7 days.
Karcraft is the easiest for stuff you cant wait for and reasonably priced too.

As for electronic ignition, I bought one of these from this seller:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Electronic-I ... 902wt_1108

I can't say if it's better or worse than any others, but it's worked wonders for me. Keep in mind these are only good if your dizzy is already in good working order.

With mini spares and probably everywhere else too, quality of the aftermarket stuff can be hit and miss. Id buy genuine if there's an option.

Ive had ball joints and trailing arm kits that simply didn't fit without modifications.

On the other hand I cant fault my mini-spares calipers although I haven't had it on the road yet.

As for local vs import. Local are selling the same stuff anyway and If I can get it over seas cheaper, usually delivered faster than the locals, with a website I can use after hours and a secure payment system.

I think the choice is obvious.

I use minispares mainly, even though I have a minisport trade account prices are sometimes cheaper at minispares. Minisport often dont have the stock even though they say they do. With 8 minis I buy a lot of spares!

Minisport adelaide if I need stuff in a hurry.

Agree about the aftermarket products, I have had to modify most things for my countryman resto to fit properly.

I buy from Karcraft, Minis Plus and Minispares UK, in that order.
There have been some Qs from time to time about Minisport's parts quality, (eg. I got a drive flange with no splines in it)- agreed their freight is cheaper than from Minispares (who use UPS with gold plating at our expense).. :x

[edit] This is Minisport UK.

Clarification - this is Minisport UK, not Minisport in Adelaide.
