probably not moving all that fast - not as much damage as the picture Dr Mini often puts up of the car he was in that crashed at 60mph

I'm impressed though, the basic structure still stayed intact. The motor folded under like it was meant to...

but yeah, wouldn't have tickled

Looks like the steering wheel would have been fun to hold onto at the time.

I was in the front passenger's seat. We were run off the road by a dill in a Porsche 911 back in `65.
We hit a (smallish) gum tree 1M above ground. Tree went through the radiator. No seatbelts back then. Speedo was stuck on 60MPH.
My left leg was shattered in 100pcs, I spent 5 months in traction and 10 off work. Left arm was broken near the shoulder also.

Took me 5 years to get any settlement (from NRMA) and then they settled out of court for $9K. About $5K of that went in doctor and hospital expenses.

11 months later, I took the 1058cc (997 Cooper) motor out of this car and put it into mine... :P

I reckon you're right, not as fast as people would think.
Firstly, no front panels, so the car clearly had a flip front (fasteners are visable on the A panel) which would've done nothing to help in a crash other than fly off, so the engine and subframe has taken the whack entirely. Since that won't have any give / crumple in it, the load had gone back into the car body just behind the subframe.
