Post subject:  Timing cover bracket

Dose anyone have an idea what this plate/bracket would be for on this engine?

It's bolted behind the timing cover and has curved rubber pads on each side of the engine. I've never seen anything like it before and it looks more like a "factory" item and not some home built thing.

It is the engine mount for a Morris 1100.

For use in a Mini just take Mr Anglegrinder or Mr Oxy and cut both the sides off it.

&,,, if you have a look at the diff housing it will have 4x coarse thread (UNC) """side""" bolts for the shifter "Sandwhich-mount" to bolt to

& also--> the diff ratio will most probably be a 4.1:1 or a 4.2:1

...and the gearbox is 3 synchro with the usual (non-S) crap ratios.
POS these days, find a Mini K 4 synchro box and use that (but put S gears + a 3.44 diff in). 8)

what is the easiest way to tell what diff ratio a box has?

If it's off the motor, count the pinion teeth and crownwheel teeth. A spot of white paint on a tooth makes it easy.

18/62 is a 3.444
17/62 is a 3.647
17/64 is a 3.765

If the pinion is 15T, it's either a 4.13 or a 4.26. Too low geared for a Mini (or a Moke on 10" wheels)

Those ratios are great, is their a list of the complete ratio range for minis and mokes?
Also how do you figure out what RPM you'll do at 100kmph with a particular diff ratio?

That shown above ^^^ is pretty much the whole range that was sold over here. There are a few others available from UK:

with 10" wheels,
3.444 diff is about 16.1 MPH/1000
3.647 diff is 23.91 KMH/1000 (calcs from my GPS, 4600 rpm @ 110KMH)
