Post subject:  Advice on repacking early seats

As you can see from the photos I don't think my seats have been touched for over 40 years.

I have a sneaking suspicion the elastic has gone in the back

I'm keen to have a crack at repacking both the base and back with new foam and replacing the straps. Surely it's not that difficult.

Keen to hear any tips or advice regarding this.

Cheers

More pics of the base. Looks like someone has added an extra sheet of foam perhaps.

I'm interested to know what type and density ofoam I should use when redoing the back and base.

Thanks

I replaced the elastic straps $10 from a furniture upholsterer it made a huge difference. You could also get some high density foam rubber from him or just go to Clark Rubber should,nt be too difficult.

How did you get on? I'd love to know how you get the rubber base on? I have to replace the base in one of my seats but don't want to take it all apart to do it. And Im finding the rubber is so strong i can't get the last 2 or 3 clips in.

I haven't done any more yet. I have replaced the rubber base once before on another seat from underneath. I found that you need a second person to help pull on the rubber using say a big screwdriver though the rubber while the other hooks the hook in the frame. It's a bastard of a job.

It looks like the factory would have installed the rubber first to the frame from above (would be easy)before glueing down the cushion to the edge of the frame.
