Post subject: | Spare Parts in Australia |
As I have mentioned in previous posts I am going to be moving to Melbourne next year and going to ship my 1990 mini as a Personal import. So my question is what parts should I stock up on to ship when I go. What is impossible to get in Australia? Going to pack some ball joints bearings etc but what would people recommend so I can buy them over the next few months. Thanks Zeroasylum |

Pretty much everything is available here in Australia, if not it can easily be bought online overseas and be delivered to your door within a week. Doogie |

Doogie .... with no GST, or import duty (if kept below $1000 total). |

Mate there is nothing you cant get here. Australia may be out on its own but we arent a third world country, and you can get anything over the net. Think wisely about the benefits of importing your mini. I think you will find the costs outweigh the value of your car. |

A mate was shipping a Mini over from the UK and offered to put some parts inside it to save on freight. It seemed like a good idea, until you figured VAT into it. As the parts were being delivered to a UK address the VAT had to be paid, plus there was still the delivery cost to a UK address. This negated any savings on freight to Australia with no VAT. If the car is coming RoRo and not in a container, you also have the theft risk. Unless you are bringing in large panels or rare used parts (eg: old-school wheels) which cost a bomb to ship, it's probably not worth worrying about it. Cheers, |

Fill it up with things like shorrock superchargers, formula junior rocker covers, genuine Speedwell, Downton and Alexander tuning parts and Les Leston steering wheels, because they're all hard to get here. Tim |
