Got a couple of gloss black coats down on my flares when going a clear top coat should I sand between the last gloss black coat & top clear with 1200 grit or something?

Spay cans. Acrylic .

My painter says no! Rub the clear coat.

However, as the black is a solid color, you should not need to clear coat it?

if you sand it will give you a flater (less orange peal)finish. if your coulor is solid (non metalc or pearl)you dont need cleae coat it is mainly to protect these finishes. just rub with 1200 and then 2000 and then cut with cuting compound and final pollish would do the jop perfectly

I'd still clear it so it stays fresh looking and scratches won't be a drama as its the clear coat that gets it first. Will look smoother with a few coats of clear too. But don't sand before the clear lightly sand the clear between coats for that smooth no orange peel finish.
