I'm thinking i might do away with the idea of using an SC12 or AM500. The SC12 is getting too pricey (and old) and the AMR500 might be too small. I'm ready to buy an M45 to start playing with, but am not sure where to find one.

Is there a known place or supplier for these things at a reasonable price?

It's a pity the Mercedes M45 has a different housing design.... they're easy to find.

There was one in the for sale forums on here not long ago, otherwise I wouldn't even know where to start looking for an m45.

what's different about it? you might find it'd work better than the bini version

Ebay UK....You can ship it to AUS for $100 using an intermediate courier and it will be sent via DHL.

50% larger is a fair bit in my books. I think the AMR500 probably would be okay, to be honest... but lots more people have used the M45 with success.

Mercedes version. Inlet and outlet are both pointing the same direction... down.

There's not enough room between the motor and firewall to rotate the whole charger 90deg.

Image
Mini version. Inlet is perfect shape for a Weber (which is what i want to use) and points out the side with the outlet pointing downwards.

are there any integrally cast pieces in that downwards pointing extension? could be an opportunity to lop it off and weld a flange on there, then you could stuff around with manifold design without too much bother.

or rotate the elbow and have the carb pointing directly up  cut a hole in the bonnet. im sure the police wouldnt mind

my books say that 50% more than bugger all is still bugger all :P

I see what you mean, but I guess you could cut that intake off and weld your own flange on

the bini M45's look to sit very close to the bonnet, would you be able to get a weber beside it?

Google is your friend. My friend too. Everyone's friend. Google is a whore.

Anyway... there's lots of examples of the Bini charger with a weber fitted to a mini engine. Some do look like they don't fit under the bonnet, but they can be made to fit.

examples:

There is also a generic M45 direct from Eaton with options of nose length. You find these in kits for other cars. An example is the kit I had on my 5. These come up on Yahoo Japan and sometimes through the jap importers. With these ones the bypass valve is a separate unit, not integrated into other parts on the car. Is it the Bini one that has the bypass integral with the water pump?
