Post subject: | Trip meter mod? |
Wondering if anyone has modded a trip meter from something else to fit a mini? I've been looking around and it looks like the only option would be to get a rally computer of some kind which is a bit of overkill for what I want, just a little dial to tick over the distance ![]() |

On the earlier Minis you can modify the speedo with the trip meter out of something like an MGB. I'm not too sure about the plastic speedos but I'm sure that there would be something in the Leyland parts bin that would fit. The Clubman speedo was related to the Marina. I don't know if the later Marinas in the UK got a trip meter but something compatible probably would have. Maybe TR7. |

Cheers Morris, I'll have a look around, something BL would be great. I'm surprised there aren't(well I haven't found:) ) any simple aftermarket meters etc that run off those hub sensors you can get for the rally comps, although I guess most people would just go for completely new gauges rather than trying to keep the old ones. |

Some GPS have a trip meter function. The Acewell digital speedos have a trip meter too. I might have to pull my Austin Montego speedo apart to see if it is related to a Clubbie speedo. ![]() |

You could probably graft a VDO speedo or similar into a Clubman cluster and it would not look too odd. Cheers, |

Take a look at the various Acewell speedos on ebay and you might find something that more suits your needs. |

Thanks guys, If getting something to fit in the cluster easily is too tricky, I think one of those ace wells could be grafted in without being too out of place |

Meant to post this photo when it was first discussed, I know you are after the later speedo but I think this is what Morris1100 is meaning. The centre of this speedo (theres a join where the inner chrome ring is) must be from something else. Would be a handy mod. ![]() |

Correct, so long as you get the correct TPI wheels to make it work right ![]() ![]() |

I wonder how hard it would be to graft a clubby style face onto one of those MG Clocks. Does anyone know if any were the same gearing as the mini by any chance? |
