Post subject:  Receiver Dryer for cars with AC

I need a new dryer for the ac setup in my car.
Anyone know where I can obtain a 96-00 mini one, or if anybody has changed theirs before, can they tell me the make / model number of the part?

This is what's currently in there:

These are no longer availabe.
I've seen other cars with black aftermarket units before, even just a place I can contact might be of use.
Thanks.

Try vintage air: http://www.vintageair.com/

They do systems for hot rods.

Obviously the generic unit they send you probably won't be a bolt in deal. They have a catalog you can download that has just about everything in it.

Try Repco. they have a very comprehensive range of AC stuff. At reasonable prices. They should also be able to cross the number you have to a replacement one.

If you have some photos/dimensions/fitting types and sizes, I can probably help you out with one. A good website to check out to find a match would be http://ishop2.cooldrive.com.au/, They are one of the bigger A/C parts suppliers, although i'm uncertain if they sell retail, but I could help you out with that.

I was down at the local AC mob today too, both of us going through about half a dozen catalogues, not to find much.
I've been on that cool drive site for the last three hours, going through every dryer they have for something that may fit. Best bet so far is off a CAT excavator of all things!

I know why mine doesnt exist: because mini AC was a Jap only thing and unique to that car there is no stock in Angland, and when the factory moved from Japan to China six years ago they stopped making some of the 'Jap' only market stuff.

How important is it I get a replacement with a sight glass in the top?

Might check repco / bursons......might get me close.

Thanks guys.

Update:

Well its taken nearly a month of running around to various AC places, and countless hours scouring the net for part manufacturers, but I do now have a working AC system. :D

In the end I went the dryer out of the Caterpillar Excavator because they're a common size part and a stocked item worldwide. It's also quite cheap at only $30.
The downside is to get iit to fit I've had to sort a new mounting bracket and even harder, get new pipes made up in a larger size - not cheap. The new pipes are the industry standard #6, meaning spare parts are pretty easy to sort now.

Thanks for the help and suggestions people!

I did a complete R12 to R134A conversion on my wife's car including a new condensor, Sanden compressor, 134 hoses and a universal drier/receiver. All part sourced from this guy
