So if I lift of the accellerator in the 1275LS at 80 or more I get a distinct clunk through the car. I am not sure if it is drivetrain because it sometimes seems to go right through the car so I wondered if it might be engine mounts. I'll have a look at the weekend but any ideas?

I haven't noticed it before so it is a new issue.

Check steady bar (dogbone) bushes, top steady mount face of firewall (these crack), engine mounts, also that the CV nuts are both still tight...

Check ball joints too, though they normally make sounds at slower speeds.

I had the same problem with my car.
The steady bar opposite the brake and clutch cylinder was missing its nut and the one closest to the radiator was missing 1 of the 3 bolts that bolt into the firewall and missing 1 nut.
I fixed it all up and no more clunking

I had this once as well in the Moke and it was a can of coke rolling forwards and backwards under the passenger seat :roll:

What bushes do you have in the engine steady bars , Neoprene or rubber ?
I have used both and the rubber bushes are much less harsh as far as vibration resonating back thru the car, and last longer .
Matty Read apparently sells a good quality rubber bush .
