G'day guys, So I put the mini in to get a new exhaust (at the local wheel, exhaust and and brake shop), no problem all done. Then while it was there I got them to do a wheel alignment, no problem all done. Then I thought might as well get them to make sure the brakes were sweet. problem. They said I need new wheel cylinders, and I should replace all 6 (4 front, 2 back), no probs, i want my brakes to be perfect. so i said leave it to me and i'll organise parts. I ordered them in from Karcraft and gave to them this arvo. They gave me a call saying they are the wrong ones, the locating pin is on the wrong side or something. I asked if they could just drill a hole to make them fit as someone had suggested somewhere before, but they said no, and wanted to use some they had ordered in (cost of 3 times what i paid from Karcraft). Does anyone know what the differences between the different types? Cheers |

the 5/8th rear wheel cylinders have the locating pin on the opposite to the 3/4 cylinders. 3/4" rear cylinders were used on drum all 'round minis, 5/8" rear cylinders were used on disc brake front cars (generally this is the case). I am assuming that you have drums front and rear if they want you to replace all '6' of them? Are you sure you ordered 3/4" ones? <edit> I recently drilled my brake backplates for 5/8" cylinders instead of 3/4" cylinders - so it is doable on the car. You don't want to reduce your brakes on a drum car so make sure you keep it as a matched set i.e. 3/4" cylinders with drums on the front as well. |

I have found that the locating pins are different depending on the brand of wheel cylinder. I usually change them every 18 months to 2 years and the locating holes can either be opposite or slightly offset to the original. 
But yes make sure the diameter is correct because there are so many different types made over the years |

I just checked the invoice (parts still at brake place): Here is what i was got (well invoiced for anyway, dont have them here to check): Brake Wheel Cyl - Mini (RHF) 15/16" Brake Wheel Cyl - Mini (LHF) 15/16" Brake Wheel Cyl - Mini(Rear) .750" Should these be ok? |

Another way to do it if you have a bench drill or milling machine is mark & drill another 5/32" blind hole accurately in the slave cylinder, then swap the pin over. |

Just let the place know, i'm going to get the mini picked up and i'll do myself. I have a couple workshop manuals i'll follow, but does anyone have any tips when installing the new cylinders and setting them up? Cheers |

In long, you could sign up to Rapidshare and upload it there and provide the link to the file on the forum here.
