Post subject: | Little Crunch Going Back in Gear |
Ok so with clutch to the floor the car has started to do a tiny crunch when going into gear. So is this just an adjustment or a sign of something else? Thanks in anticipation to all the mind reading crystall ball gazing geniuses in miniland who can answer my completely inept musings about my little go cart ![]() |

Usually a sign the syncros are on the way out, second and third gears go before the others. Reving the engine on the downshift will help in the short term and extend the life of the bits. |

Hang on, is this any gear? If all gears have started crunching I'd be looking more at the clutch. What about reverse, does that grind a little when the car is still? If it is the clutch you might need to give it a bit of a bleed, an easy job that will take only a minute. |

As Yobbo said , try the easier solutions first , could be that things are starting to get a bit worn , but there could be plenty more miles in it yet. Us not knowing exactly which gears it is doing this in ,or how bad it's doing it makes it a bit hard to diagnose. Does it do it everytime you put it into first ,or does it do through all gears whilst down changing ?. If it grinds when your trying to get reverse , try putting it in first and then reverse. How bad does it grind when trying to select 1st ?, if only a little try giving the clutch a pump or even select 2nd , then 1st , sometimes you have to work these funny little things out with these old cars. |

If the car is stationary and grinds when trying to select a gear, especially reverse, then look at the mechanical and hydraulic components of the clutch system. If it selects gears fine whilst stationary, but grinds when the car is moving, changing from one gear to another, then it's gearbox internals. |

Thanks guys. The other thing it very occasionally does is pop out of second in a corner... Not a fan of that one. i'll take it for a drive and figure it out in the next c ouple of days. |

Ok. It crunches a touch going into fourth about 1 in 5 times. Occasionally from second to third. ... |

Stationary it does sometimes clunk into reverse but not so much first. I'll go over the hydraulics and adjustment and see how it goes. Thanks for your help guys. |
