I read somewhere that you should not put compressed air through a mechanical fuel pump.

Why?

Does it do something to the diaphram?

yep there are valves and i think a rubber diaphragm that opens and shuts with the lever action provided by the camshaft

so only the lever action will open and shut valves
blowing air in it wont go through coz there will be shut valves

if you want to clean it out, get an overhaul kit (diaphragm, balls for the one way valves, seals) pull it apart and then clean any goob out. believe me it is an absolute sinch to do.

Yea I put air through mine to get and fuel out that might be still in there. :?

Mine doesn't seem to come appart like the older ones with screws on top. This appears to be a sealed unit. It's a late clubby type.

That type didn't last long. I still don't get it....the compressed air bit that is. The only way to fix a mechanical pump is to pull it apart.

Mount it on a square exhaust mount, that will make it run quiet.
