Post subject:  Subframe fittings for best handling
Hey all,
Ive got the moulton smootharide adjustable set with new shocks.

Now, to stiffen up the whole steering, would all of this suffice:

for the front:

LH & RH gearbox stabilisers

^^ would they be ok as they are or would the nylon bushes: http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-par ... SP674.html make a HUGE difference?

Anything else I need?

If you have an Australian Clubby there are NO mount rubbers on the front subframe (it's bolted up solid) so that 1st link stuff is useless to you.

re the 2nd link (rear trunnion rubbers) I doubt you will see or feel any difference compared to the stock rubber ones, which are pretty stiff.

As for the stabilizers, putting lurethane in them instead of rubber will just transmit engine vibes into the body. And lurethane wears out before the rubber, too. Been there, done that, went back to rubber.

You have an imported Rover mini? :?
That's what the first link is for. All Aussie mini subframes are already solid mounted.

The lower gearbox steadies may work, but I've never found them necessary with two good top steadies on a worked 1310 with rod change box.
Stick with rubber bushes or the black/purple polyurethane.
Do not use the yellow ones. They are non nylon, and while they do stop more engine movement than the rubber, they chew out very fast. The holes go oval very quickly even though they look fine from outside.

None of these items will really do much for the handling.
Have you fitted new bushes in all the suspension arms?

Great, looks like i don't have to buy anything then! What was i thinking anyway, Minis handle great already! Might put my rear subframe back in tonight then!

I think the best thing anyone can do to improve the handling on a Mini is return it back to standard, by that I mean replace all the worn out bits and make it new again.
