Hi.

I have bought another Automatic engine its a 1000cc.
I was wondering if anyone knew did they have a separate engine number or were they just numbered as they came off the line with the manual engines??
Im trying to get an idea of when it was built.

Cheers

Damon

Most 998 autos had the prefix 99H/119H, these motors and autoboxes were all imported from UK.
These blocks are not the same as the manual ones. Their lubrication system is different. Oil goes from the oil pump via a big pipe down to the transmission, is filtered there then some comes UP the oil pipe and into the engine, where engine oil pressure is regulated by the usual relief valve.

Like all such lists on the web there are errors in this one too.
eg. a Mk2 `matic body prefix is YA2S5, not 4. I know this because I owned 2..

Of course but it gives you a rough idea. Helped me figure out what my body was and where my motor came from. Not what i expected.

Hi Thanks for the info.

The engine numbers are kind of helpful.
It does say your mk1 Auto is 998. My mk1 Auto is a 850.
When did they bring in the mk1 auto in Oz?

The details for the engine I got....99h285E-H6245 is the engine #......does that mean its the 5144 block off the line? with the numbers starting at 101.

The head is a 2A629 SM..... can anyone tell me what the sm is for?

Thanks

The numbers I quoted were for the Australian built 998 MiniMatic, they were released around January 1968 I think.

See http://miniauto.com.au/home.htm

We never got the 850 autos here....

You need to contact UK for details of your UK/NZ built cars.

My mum bought a brand new Matic back in May 1968, I still have the original rego and dealer delivery papers here for it.

Bit confusing though, on the 'Original Registration' papers it has engine number as 99H/119/H/150 but on the 'Dealer Delivery' invoice it has the engine number as 9ANAH 150, chassis number YMA2S2 1409. Maybe a stuff up when typing up the invoice. If any one has that matic they are welcome to the paper work, I did see the car advertised in the Trading Post around 5 years ago. The original Victorian registration was JZL126.
