Post subject:  Best way to clean a petrol tank ?
Hey peeps couldnt find a howto on cleaning a petroltank so im wondering what methods you have used.

Ive just pulled the tank out of pickles and gave it a wash out with petrol , well pleanty of flaky black bits like paint " soft " not sure if its sludge or there has been a tank liner kit put through it.

So what steps did you take if any ?

it's wax and residue from the petrol... if there was rust in there you'd find bits of that too

I let mine dry, then held it upside down beat on the outside of it to loosen all of the stuck on crap, shook as much as I could out and then rinsed it out. Inspect for flakes of rust in the stuff you shake out

Make sure you have a big fuel filter on it when you put it back in the car

Post subject:  Fuel Tank Cleaning
I was recommended to use a particular product a few years ago and sold the tank and didnt do it.

But recently, i recall reading about a product and just found it.

I put some fine gravel in mine and shook the living crap out of it.
Then I used rust converter, rinsed and dried it.

I then had to stick a little drill into the breather pipe at top and punch a hole through the strainer on the outlet pipe, but all good. My pump has a filter on it anyway.

Update:
It worked , after a lot of flushing and reflushing and then banging rinsing with petrol over and over again , no black floaty bits anymore.

Also interestingly flushing the tank out with pertol into a clear container you could see the water gather into a bubble into the bottom of the container " looked quite cool with the sun shining through it ".

So thanks again simon and for the rest of the replies ," in for some spinal injections tomorrow " woohoo " so i will put the tank back in on the weekend and try fire pickles up again " oh installed one of those clear fuel filters too.

I started today on injecting my supercharged engine which meaqnt first stop cleaning the spi tank. I am going to use this system http://www.kbs-coatings.com.au/flow-cha ... l-on-steel

They do a 3in1 package for petrol tanks which I have.

I used a handful of screws and wax and grease remover.
I needed to remove rust and scale before pouring in one of the fuel tank sealing kits.
Worked a treat, but some times took a while to get the last screw out :?
