Yes you do need to let the hydro right down. But unless you disconnect pipes (or screw the valves out) you won't have to use the vacuum pump before re-pumping it up.
IMO it's easier than doing a dry car.

Hey all, My parts order has finally arrived in time to get some things done over the weekend. One of the many items on the to do list is the front knuckle joint boots. I noticed they were split when i did the CV's last weekend. I am looking for advice on the best way to change these out. I know i will have to let the hydro down completely, I am assuming the top ball joint is going to need to be separated again in order to lower the upper control arm. Advice?? Procedures? Avoid? After i have swapped them out i am going to have to re-pump the system. I have a grease gun type pump with a great valve on it and i was planning to use the Glycol / Distilled Water recipe on here. So once they are changed, i am pretty sure i will be right. Your input is appreciated |

Hi guys, sorry about the post bump but I really need to know if separating the top ball joint is a must for this job. I would hate to let down the hydro system before realizing that i need to undo the drive shaft nut first. Has anybody got advice on this? |

Hi Undo the spring off the rear trailling arm at the bottom , You will have to jack the back of the car up so the rear arm can droop down , this will suck the fluid from the front , jack the front up and remove the lower rebound rubber , this may give you enough to remove the knuckle from the front hydro to replace the dust cover , if not then you will have to drain some fluid , just an idea , can't say it is the right way , but may be worth a try PS you will need to have one side both wheels off the ground at the same time If that makes scence Mark |
